just thinkin

so this is day 4 - and this journal is mostly for myself - but i figure my sponsors and maybe friends and family may end up reading it...  so this one is kinda for you - whoever you may be :)

I just finished my fourth day of walking 3 miles - and for most people, I guess that wouldn't be a big deal.  But I am NOT in the best shape of my life.  far from it actually.  so walking 3 miles is not really fun - or even enjoyable for that matter. Its not hard, but I'd much rather be doing something else.  anything else.

After my walk, I got a glass of water.  As I was filling it up, I just thought how simple and basic that act was.  I can get a glass of water by walking 20 steps into my kitchen from any room. And the water is clean, and cold, and I even got a second glass.  Its such a basic thing in our lives as Americans.

Today's walk was not fun.  But it made me think about how blessed I am.

Day 3

I really do not like walking.  Not even on my treadmill!  Time seems to go by so sloooooowly on there.  I would run - but let's get serious.  Let's talk about running 6 months from now.  but for now -  I'll walk.

The only thing that kept me moving today was knowing that I was 3 miles closer to the 1000 mile mark. (wow i'm lazy!)

But those last few seconds - while I'm watching those lights blink, and they're telling me that the lap is almost finished - I feel like it will never end!!!!

And then the lap starts again, and I'm passing the 3 mile mark, and I feel like I could keep going...

the mind is a very strange thing

Awesome sneaks :)

For Christmas this year, my sister bought me those awesome sneakers by Skechers - called Shape Ups.

So cool - so comfy.

But break into them slowly. hahahahaha

they're supposed to imitate walking on sand - for the first mile and a half, my shins were burning!!!!!  But I took a break and came back 10 minutes later, and finished up the rest and it was like walking on squishy clouds - love my new sneaks!!!

3 more miles down... it was late when I walked - and I really felt like - ahhhhh I'm not OFFICIALLY on the walk yet.  Its kinda late - why not just do it tomorrow.

nope.  people had to walk to get water today.  so I got on my treadmill.

6 miles down :)

WHY I'M DOING WHAT I'M DOING!

DAY 1

3 miles down, 997 more to go!

We decided to send gifts through Gospel for Asia this year for Christmas -  Bibles, tracts, blankets, bunnies and chickens.  We saw the Jesus Well - but it was $1000.  Yep - I didn't really think much more about it.  A few days before Christmas, the kids and I sat down to watch the little promo video for the gift catalog, and when I saw the water gushing from the Jesus Well - I thought immediately, "Too cool!!! We've gotta get it!  I dont' know how, but we just have to!"

We started brainstorming about little things we could make and sell, ultimately saving up for the well, but I just didn't think that was reeeeeally gonna happen.

The next morning, I woke up and thought - people get sponsors all the time for walks - why don't I take the whole year to walk 1000 miles - and people could sponsor me in smaller amounts throughout the year!

I thought about how most people in underdeveloped countries need to walk miles to get their water, so it seemed like a cool thing to do - to walk with them each day.  I started walking the day after Christmas, but the official time will be January 1,2011 - December 1,2011 (I figured I should end early so I could purchase the well in time for a Christmas gift).  That breaks 1000 miles down to almost 21 miles each week. (or approx. 90 miles each month)

I only need 12 people to sponsor me a dime a mile throughout the year to earn the entire amount for the well!  That's all!  That means just $6 each paycheck.  I couldn't believe it was such a small amount! My hubby is sponsoring me - and my mom & dad - and my kids even said they would give a dollar out of each allowance! (i love their sweet, generous hearts!!)

So - here I go.  3 miles down. 997 more to go.  I'm really excited about doing this!  I'm praying for joy the whole way :)

How can you help?

Its really simple!

Pray for me.  Pray for the well that we will fund.  Pray for the people that will receive this gift.  Pray for Gospel for Asia!  Pray ... Pray... Pray!!!

God can do mighty things when we are on our knees :)

If you want to fund a Jesus well, there are a few ways to do that!

One, you can give directly to Gospel for Asia's site.  You don't have to buy an entire well on your own!  The link at the top of my page called "What is a Jesus well?" will take you right to their site, and on the right hand side, there is a place where you can just donate directly to a well - any amount of money you'd like!

Two, you can sponsor me!!!  woo hoooo :)  People are typically sponsoring me a dime each mile - over the course of the year, but you can do whatever you like!  I won't turn away a penny!  (If you do sponsor me a dime each mile - it works out to be $6 a paycheck, or $12 a month.)  You just use the donate button on the top of my blog, and it walks you through!  You don't even have to have a Paypal account.  I can accept gifts right through your credit card - thanks Paypal!!

Three, you can give a one time gift!  Nothing is too small! God loves a cheerful giver - so whatever you give, give it with a smile and a joyful heart!

At mile markers 250, 500, 750, and 1000 - I'd like to have a little fun get together with everyone who'd like to come.  We'll walk, pray, celebrate and thank God for His blessings to us and His blessing others through us!

If you have any fun suggestions at where the "parties" should be - please let me know!  I want it to be a great time of fellowship for all who come!

Love you all, Leah :)
